Advanced Diploma of Information Technology
Cyber Security
Two years, sixteen units, delivered face to face in Jandakot. AGIT is an EC-Council Academia partner, and this is the specialisation that partnership attaches to.
What it costs
The figure depends on one thing: where you are applying from. Every amount below includes the $750 material fee and the $250 non-refundable application fee.
| If you are | Tuition | Indicative total |
|---|---|---|
| Applying from outside Australia | $26,000 | $27,000 |
| In Australia on a student visa | $18,500 | $19,500 |
| Citizen or permanent resident | $14,000 | $15,000 |
Indicative only. Your written Letter of Offer is the authoritative fee schedule. How these numbers were worked out →
The EC-Council part
EC-Council issues the Certified Ethical Hacker credential. AGIT is a partner under its Academia Partnership Program.
For most people comparing cyber security courses, EC-Council is the one certification body whose name they already knew. The partnership gives AGIT students access to globally recognised certifications, industry-aligned curriculum and hands-on learning, and it applies to this specialisation and to all three tiers of the non-accredited AGIT IGNITE programme.
Sixteen units — six core, ten elective
Unit codes and titles are prescribed by the national training package and cannot be changed by a provider.

How you are assessed
Competency-based, against the requirements of each unit. There are no grades — you are either competent in a unit or you are not yet.
The methods are written knowledge questions, case studies, simulations, role-plays, practical demonstrations, presentations, portfolios, projects and workplace-style reports and documentation. Assessment is mapped to unit requirements and applies the principles of fairness, flexibility, validity and reliability.
What you need to supply yourself
A laptop with a current web browser, a valid email address, and the ability to produce .docx, .xlsx, .pptx and .pdf files. Reliable high-speed internet. Notebooks and stationery. A USB or external drive.
IT students specifically need additional storage capacity and the ability to install software, because a substantial part of this qualification runs in virtual machines.
Getting in
Same for all four ICT60220 specialisations.
- Age
- 18 or over at enrolment.
- English
- IELTS Academic 6.0, PTE Academic 50 or TOEFL iBT 60. A qualification delivered in English for at least twelve months counts instead, as does an approved ELICOS program.
- Prior study
- Australian Year 12 or the overseas equivalent.
- LLN
- A language, literacy and numeracy assessment before enrolment. Everyone sits it, and support is available if you need it.
- Credit / RPL
- Available before enrolment or during study, with transcripts, statements of attainment, a CV and references.
- Pathway on
- Bachelor programs in IT, computer science, cyber security and networking at CRICOS-registered higher education providers.
Questions people actually ask
Is this a cyber security degree?
No. It is a nationally recognised advanced diploma — ICT60220 — in which cyber security is the elective specialisation. It is a pathway into a bachelor degree in IT, computer science, cyber security or networking at a CRICOS-registered higher education provider. It is not itself a degree, and anyone telling you otherwise is wrong.
How much does it cost, exactly?
Between $15,000 and $27,000 depending on your category, including the material and application fees. The exact figure is in your written Letter of Offer, and that document is the one that counts — not this page and not a flyer.
AGIT currently has four published fee sources that disagree with each other. That is explained in full on the fees page →
When does it start?
Intakes are monthly, subject to availability. A calendar of specific commencement dates is published each intake. Until it exists, confirm your date with admissions before you make travel or visa arrangements.
Does the course guarantee a job, or a visa?
No, and no page on this site will suggest it does. A qualification is a qualification. Student visas are decided by the Department of Home Affairs against their criteria, not by AGIT, and employment depends on the market you enter.
What if I have already studied some of this?
Apply for Recognition of Prior Learning or credit transfer. You can do it before you enrol or at any stage during study. Bring academic testimonials, statements of attainment, your CV and letters of reference from previous schools, RTOs or employers.
What if I do not finish?
You receive a Statement of Attainment for every unit you completed. The study you did is not lost, and it can be credited elsewhere.
